What you get by connecting
Connecting Google Search Console (GSC) pulls three things into LinkLoom for the site you connect:
- Page-level performance — clicks, impressions, CTR, and average position for every URL Google shows in search.
- Search queries — the actual phrases users searched to reach each page.
- Coverage signals — Google's index status for pages we can match to your published content.
That data powers the Insights dashboard, the Triage queue, and the SEO score inside the Content Editor. Without it, those views fall back to empty states.
What LinkLoom asks for
The OAuth flow requests read-only Search Console access (webmasters.readonly). LinkLoom cannot submit sitemaps, request indexing, remove URLs, or change any setting inside your GSC account. If Google ever surfaces a permission you don't recognise, decline it — the connection only needs the read scope.
Step-by-step
- Open Sites → click your site → Search Console setup (or from Insights, tap Connect Search Console).
- Click Connect Search Console. You'll be redirected to Google.
- Choose the Google account that has access to your property in Search Console. If you use multiple Google accounts, double-check you're picking the one that already owns the property — LinkLoom cannot verify a domain on your behalf.
- Approve the read-only scope. Google sends you back to LinkLoom with a green "Google Search Console connected" toast.
- You'll land on the Pick the property for this site screen. Continue in the next article.
Requirements
- You must already be a verified owner or user of the property in Search Console. LinkLoom lists whatever properties your Google account can see — nothing more, nothing less.
- Your site needs a corresponding property in GSC. Both Domain properties (e.g.
sc-domain:example.com) and URL-prefix properties (e.g.https://www.example.com/) work. - The connection is per site. If you manage multiple sites in LinkLoom, connect each one separately — that way each site pulls only its own property's data.
What if I don't see any properties?
If the "Pick the property" screen is empty, the Google account you authorised has no Search Console properties attached to it. Either:
- Switch to a Google account that owns the property, or
- Add your current Google account as a user inside Search Console first, then reconnect.
Common connection errors
- "Google didn't return a refresh token. Retry the connection." — Google skipped the refresh token because you've already granted access to this app before. Revoke LinkLoom at https://myaccount.google.com/permissions, then reconnect.
- "Token exchange with Google failed" — Transient Google API error. Try again in a minute.
- "Failed to save Google credentials" — LinkLoom couldn't persist the token. Refresh the page and retry; if it repeats, contact support.
Disconnecting
From the Search Console setup screen, click Disconnect. That removes the stored OAuth token, deletes the imported property records for this site, and clears the primary property selection. Historical metrics that were already synced remain in the database, but nothing new will be pulled until you reconnect.
